Cupcakes

I’ve had several people tell me my blog makes them cry. Not sure whether that’s good or bad but I thought I’d start the new year off with a blog about something that makes me cry… cooking. Okay, I’m not really much of a crier but cooking sure makes me want to cry.

I’ve been in a cupcake mood lately and upon doing some research, stumbled on a picture of the most delicious looking cupcake I had ever seen.

    Boston Cream Pie Cupcake!

Yum!

Then I saw the woman who made them. Someone I’ve been compared to many times-Martha Stewart. When I say compared to, I mean in a very sarcastic way due to my lack of Martha Stewartness. “Yes, Martha Stewart, the yellow part of the egg is called the yolk.”

I figured if I can do one hundred push-ups, I can make a cupcake. Yes, I’m still bragging about my push-ups. I watched Ms. Stewart’s video twice and took some really good notes.

I gave myself a pep talk and pulled out my muffin pans. Three hours later my mission was complete. I had thirteen beautiful Boston cream pie cupcakes. Little did I know my adventure would attract the attention of our whole family. They were kind of in shock that I was trying something so daring. Making cupcakes from scratch and not a box. Who knew?

Even though daughter posted my little egg yolk comment as her status on Facebook, (she has like seven million friends), she redeemed herself at the end of the evening by saying “This was fun. Can I choose the next cupcake we’re going to make?” Son insisted he bring two cupcakes to school for his music teacher. What began as an intriguing project for me, ended up as quality time with my teens. I’ll cook anytime for that.

Now my mouth is watering for those cupcakes.
I think I’ve inherited the non-cooking gene too. I do keep thinking about learning though. Whoever heard of a grandmother who didn’t cook. Maybe your cupcakes will inspire me.

Were they “girl” push ups or “man” push ups?

Made these cupcakes and they are very good! I used premade vanilla pudding in the middle instead of following the MS recipe. Still good!

    Love your pictures!
